Circleville City Schools provides services to students ages 3 through 22 identified as disabled under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA).  Special education services are provided in accordance with Ohio's Model Policies and Procedures for the Education of Children with Disabilities.  The special education students' needs are typically served in the general education classroom with additional support provided by an intervention specialist.  


CHILD FIND: SEARCHING FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES

If you know a child who may have a disability or special needs, help is available.  Child Find is the process of locating, identifying, and evaluating children with disabilities that may be in need of special education or related services who live in the Circleville City Schools District.   

What does a disability mean?

  • For age birth to 3 – An established condition known to result in delay, or a documented developmental delay.
  • For ages 3 to 5 - A documented deficit in one or more of the following developmental areas:  communication, vision, hearing, emotional/behavioral functioning, motor skills, cognitive skills, or self help skills.
  • For ages 5 to 21 - A documented presence of one or more of the following conditions:  visual impairment including blindness, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, mental retardation (cognitive disability), multiple disabilities, deaf-blindness, autism, hearing impairment including deafness, emotional disturbance, orthopedic impairment, specific learning disability, or other health impairment.

If you suspect your child or the child of someone you know has a disability, please contact your child's principal or guidance counselor, or Assistant Superintendent Kyle Uhrig at 740-474-4340.  A school representative will contact the parents of the child to determine if the child needs to be evaluated.  If a disability is suspected, free testing is available to families to determine whether or not a special need exists.  If a need is identified, the child can begin receiving the appropriate special education and related services.
