Welcome to Fifth-Grade Social Studies!
My name is Mrs. Vegh and this is my fifth year teaching at Court Street Intermediate. Social Studies is my favorite subject--I get to teach young minds how to appreciate and get the most out of their American experience.
In fifth grade, we learn all the continents and all fifty states, as well as all major countries, mountain ranges, major rivers, and lakes in the Western Hemisphere. We learn about prehistoric Indians all the way up to the approaching Civil War. We learn all about our government and the power of "we the people." We talk about citizenship and our personal responsibilities as Americans and how we are part of an interdependent world. We also have a unit in economics that teaches us what it's like to run our own business!
